Animal Farm by George Orwell

"A fairy tale for grown-ups." That is what the back of the book said, though it is unlike any fairy tale I have ever read. There is no "happily ever after." In fact, the animals are worse off when the books ends than when it bagan.

Animal Farm is really a satire that "records the evolution from revolution against tyranny to a totalitarianism just as terrible." That's also what the back of the book said. :) I'm not a political person, and I usually try to avoid reading anything that has a purpose other than entertainment. But a friend recommended it, so I read it. And it does make you think. Something I also try not to do. :)

The animals in this story set out to create a Utopia where all animals are created equal, a place where they are no longer slaves to humanity. Instead they end up under a dictatorship of pigs, (literally) whose manifesto is: "All animals are equal but some are more equal than others." It's a facisnating read that gives a unique look into communism. Definitely makes you apperciate the land of the free.
