Among the Shadows
by LM Montgomery
A Collection of Short Stories

"Tales from the darker side." But not the kind that you would expect, after all this is Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of the Anne of Green Gables series. These tales are not dark like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, but dark none the less. There are tales of drunkards, murderers, ghosts. Tales of redemption and those beyond it. Some are very haunting, some are heart-breaking and some are even funny.

Montgomery is one of my favorites authors. In my opinion, she is one of the best at accurately describing people and how they act, especially small-town folks. She pokes fun at thier rituals and small-mindedness, but she does it in a sympathetic way. You have the feeling that she is writing about people she knows. And I love that!

My two favorite stories are "Some Fools and a Saint" and "The House Party at Smoky Island". In Saints, a deranged woman tries to drive her family just as insane as she is. In House Party, a ghost returns from the grave to confess to a murder. Whats not to love about stories like that?!

Though these are my favorites, all the stories are intriguing. If you are a fan of Montgomery, the Among the Shadows is a must have.
